Back To Portraits of Palestine >
25 year old Bisan Owda has always been lending her eyes to the world for them to see her home of Gaza. She worked with the UN for gender equality initiatives, the EU for climate change, and is an EU Goodwill Ambassador. These organizations have abandoned her and the 2 million citizens of Gaza actively being cleansed for the last 3 months.
We’ve seen these events unfold through her eyes daily, as she documents everything from the atrocities to the everyday struggle for citizens like her to find food, hygiene products, and anything resembling safe shelter.
Bisan’s parents are like many Palestinians who named their child after cities and towns in Palestine, a revolutionary act to salvage any semblance of their homes that have continuously been raided and stolen for over 75 years.
She starts every broadcast with “This is Bisan from Gaza, we are still alive.” We don’t just pray every day to continue to hear these words, but to one day hear her tell us “we are free.”
Thank you Bisan.
